Evidence-based Research of BodyTalk, mind-body medicine, for chronic pain treatment
Objective: To evaluate BodyTalk, a complementary and alternative mind-body medicine for the treatment of chronic pain.
Participants: Treatment group: 19
Control group: 17
Treatment: 8 weekly distant sessions
Measures: Pain, Emotional Factors, General Health measures using online Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) before, during and 3 months post-treatment.
Findings on improvements in pain level: 73.7% (14 out of 19) subjects experienced improvement in pain level in the treatment group, compared to 31.6% (5 out of 17) subjects in the control group.
Boxplot comparison of significant (P < 0.05) improvements in Pain Level, Anxiety, Fatigue and Satisfaction with Social Role (SatSocRol).
Results: Treatment group showed significant improvements compared to the control group for pain level (p = 0.0486), anxiety (p = 0.034) and satisfaction with social role (p = 0.035).
Conclusion: BodyTalk is effective in reducing pain level as well as emotional symptoms associated with long-term chronic pain.
